The Importance of Drinking Water

Drinking water is SO IMPORTANT! I can’t stress this enough.

I have always been a water person. I carry my water bottle around everywhere. But there’s some people who are used to drinking sodas and juices and it’s harder for them to stop drinking them and to start drinking water. I know a lot of people who justify drinking sodas by saying “it’s diet! it’s zero!”. The amount of sugar in drinks and juices, is unbelievable. And if it’s diet or zero, it just means it has a lot more toxic sh*t in it.

Take Coke Zero for example. It’s supposed to be better than Coca-Cola since it has no calories, fat or anything for that matter. But it has artificial sweeteners that trigger insulin, which send your body into fat storage mode and lead to weight gain. Diet sodas have no nutricional value. By drinking them, you’re not taking in any calories, but you’re also not swallowing anything that does your body any good either.

I could go on and on about why sodas are terrible for you. But what I want to talk about is why water is so great for you:

Feeling full
When you drink water, you feel full. This helps with weightloss. Sometimes you think you’re hungry, but you’re actually thirsty. If you have water with you at all times, you’ll feel less hungry and consume less unneccesary binges.

Muscle Fuel
When working out, you also need to stay hydrated. Water gives you energy to push through your workouts. Also, water can help sooth aching joints and muscle cramps.

Skin Glow
Water gives you clearer skin. It flushes out toxins and reduces the risk of pimples. Regular water consumption can improve the color and texture of your skin by keeping it building new cells properly.

Productivity Boost
A glass of water helps you focus! Drinking water can help you concentrate and stay refreshed and alert.

Digestion
Water keeps things “flowing”. I drink a cold glass of water every morning when I wake up in order to speed up my metabolism.

I never count how much water I drink during the day. But assuming I drink about a liter when I work out, a big glass with every meal, and some water in between meals, I assume I’m fine.

Make it a habit to drink water. Have a glass or bottle of water with you wherever you go!
If you start to get bored with the taste of water, you can try adding some citrus or fruits into your drink.

Staying hydrated is extremely important. If you’re a soda or juice drinker, try substituting it with water, and see the changes in your body in no time! Your skin, hair, mind and body will thank you! 🙂

  1. Hi, first thank you so much for your blog! It inspires me so much. I’m doing the pre-training now and I drink about 1,5 – 2 liter a day. Can it be too much?
